Mr Chuk Abraham-Igwe

Mr Chuk Abraham-Igwe is an experienced Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon practising privately at HCA The Harborne Hospital and The Priory Hospital in Birmingham, alongside his NHS base at Heartlands Hospital, part of the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust. With over 25 years of surgical experience, he specialises in advanced laparoscopic and open colorectal surgery, complex hernia repair, and emergency general surgery. His extensive expertise covers colorectal procedures for cancer and benign conditions, including bowel cancer surgery, anal fistula surgery, haemorrhoidectomy, colectomy, and pilonidal sinus surgery.

Mr Abraham-Igwe completed his FRCS in General Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2010, following an MSc in Surgical Science with Distinction from Imperial College London in 2005. He qualified as a medical doctor from the University of Nigeria in 1993. His advanced surgical skills are complemented by a dedication to enhanced patient outcomes, evidenced by his leadership in Enhanced Recovery Programmes and prehabilitation initiatives, notably pioneering the “Surgery School” concept to optimise patient preparation and recovery.

In addition to his civilian surgical practice, Mr Abraham-Igwe holds a distinguished career as a military surgeon at the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine in Birmingham. His military experience includes deployments to Afghanistan, Iraq, South Sudan, and Sierra Leone, where he provided critical trauma and emergency surgical care under challenging conditions. His expertise in complex abdominal wall reconstruction, utilising advanced laparoscopic methods, is highly sought after.

As a GMC-approved trainer, Mr Abraham-Igwe actively contributes to medical education, mentoring medical students and surgical trainees in the latest laparoscopic techniques and complex surgical procedures. His commitment extends to clinical governance and leadership roles, ensuring excellence and safety in patient care across his practice.

Beyond surgery, Mr Abraham-Igwe is actively involved in community health promotion and charity initiatives. He regularly participates in public health events, particularly focused on mental health awareness, and remains passionate about patient education and preventive healthcare.
