About

Mr Chuk Abraham-Igwe is a highly experienced Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon, practising privately at HCA The Harborne Hospital and The Priory Hospital in Birmingham, alongside his NHS base at Heartlands Hospital, part of the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust. With over 25 years of surgical experience, he is recognised for his expertise in advanced laparoscopic and open colorectal surgery, complex hernia repair, and emergency general surgery.

Chuk completed his medical degree at the University of Nigeria in 1993, followed by an MSc in Surgical Science with Distinction from Imperial College London in 2005. He achieved his FRCS in General Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2010. Alongside his civilian practice, he has built a distinguished career as a military surgeon at the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine in Birmingham. His deployments to Afghanistan, Iraq, South Sudan, and Sierra Leone saw him deliver life-saving trauma and emergency surgical care under some of the most challenging conditions.

As a leader in surgical innovation, Chuk has been instrumental in developing Enhanced Recovery Programmes and pioneering prehabilitation initiatives, including the “Surgery School” concept designed to optimise patient preparation and recovery. He also plays an active role in education as a GMC-approved trainer, mentoring medical students and surgical trainees in advanced laparoscopic and complex surgical techniques.

Beyond the operating theatre, Chuk is committed to clinical governance, leadership, and community health promotion. He actively participates in public health initiatives, with a particular focus on mental health awareness, preventive healthcare, and patient education.
